I’d like to thank everyone who came to dance at our inaugural event on May 5. Attendance was double the expected numbers and people came early and stayed late.  I’ve lived in Austin only a short time, but I’ve never yet seen a WCS crowd show up at 7:30 and stay dancing until 12:30, esp on a school night.  Thank you!  I sure hope you had a good time, cuz *I* certainly did!

As mentioned, attendance was large. 29 for the lesson with Taletha at 8pm, and overall headcount was 64. I’m very grateful to the folks who came a long distance: Mario Robau and crew all the way from Houston, honored members of the Alamo WCS Club in San Antonio, and even Shag friends from the metropolis of New Braunfels.  I’d also like to thank the many Pros who showed up and danced with everybody as smoothly as a politician shaking hands — regular hobbyist dancers dance more when they see you as as fellow dancer rather than a Name.

I’d also like to thank everyone for their compliments for a different sort of sound centered on classic Soul, R&B, and Blues. I’m trying to create a vibe that is intentionally different than other dances so that you can enjoy all the variety of dances Austin offers. I’ll also have some tweaks on the facility ready for June: gonna try to adapt the floor lights to slot dancing, and maybe get more chairs or stools in place. The A/C unit is also being upgraded before our June soiree.

Also, definitely what will be new for June is: a special Blue Moon cocktail. It’s not hard to guess at least one of the ingredients, eh?
